Students have many opportunities to receive extra credit in 7th Grade Home and Career Skills.

Extra stitching sheets

Cooking at Home

Watching Cooking Shows

Students are required to complete 10 practice stitching sheets in Home and Career Skills. Each sheet challenges students to improve their sewing skills.

There are 7 more stitching sheets that students may complete to earn extra credit. These sheets are more difficult than the 10 required sheets.
Once students have watched the measuring demonstration in class they may earn extra credit for cooking at home.

Children benefit greatly from cooking at home. Parents should judge the level of independence their child may have; any involvement in meal preparation will help strengthen skills.

This is not a required assignment; however, any student who brings in a signed note from an adult verifying his/her home cooking experiences will receive extra credit. The note should include:
1.      What food was made
2.      What part was completed by the student
3.      That the student willingly helped clean-up
4.      Whether the preparation was successful
5.      Any other comments the adult wishes to make

Students enjoy watching the cooking shows on TV whether it's Emeril, Mario, or Carmine thtat they're watching. They can earn some credit for what they are learning by watching these and
other cooking shows on TV.

To earn extra credit students are to:
¸       Watch a cooking show.
¸       Write a paragraph about what they saw. The paragraph should include:
o       The name of the program they watched
o       The names of at least 2 foods that were prepared during the program
o       The cooking techniques demonstrated
o       Any other comments they would like to make
¸        They are to turn their paper in to their teacher to earn the extra credit.

There is no limit to the number of cooking programs they watch or the number of paragraphs that they turn in.
