We sampled different types of oils today then discussed serving sizes. Students viewed common items such as:
a bar of soap
deck of cards
tennis ball
dice
CD
cassette
and determined how they equal a portion of meat, serving of pasta or rice, ounce of cheese, etc.

Students should study for their food pyramid quiz on Monday. If students have crayons, colored pencils or markers at home they should bring them in for class tomorrow. It is not necessary to purhcase these items for class.

Grade 7

All classes participated in a contest to see who could provide the correct names for common pieces of lab equipment. The winner received extra credit in each class. Period 5 & 8 do not have homework tonight.

Period 3 will be involved in math testing for the next 2 days. i explained to the class the problem with losing 2 class days and how our labs are scheduled. The class voted to have homework for the next 2 nightsso that they will be able to participate in the 3 labs. Students are to read 2 chapters on Equipment and Reading Recipes and complete the worksheets. The entire class must complete the homework and turn it in on Thursday.

It is the policy of the Home and Career Skills Department that if students do not do the preparation work for the labs they will not be able to participate in the labs.

I have discovered from this lab that students would benefit greatly from reading weights and figuring how much would be a serving using the information on the labels. Unfortunately, there is not enough time for us to do this in class so if you could provide your children with thest experiences at home it would provide them with another life skill they will use as adults. Students should be studying for their unti test for homework tonight.

These students will have to spend many lunches and after school days making up what they are missing in class. We had a discussion in the period 1 class about spelling today. I am very concerned about the number of 8th graders who do not know how to spell their middle name, street and city. These are words that they should know how to spell at this time especially if they are going to be filling out job applications in the near future!

Students in periods 3 & 8 turned in their shirts today. The period 5 class turned theirs in yesterday and received them back today. There is no homework for tonight.

Ms. Bingham and Mr. Scott were guest speakers in our classes today. They discussed working papers--why we need them and how to get them.

Students should be completing the job application and preparing for their interview project for homework. Those who have completed their interviews are to write their thank you letters for homework. Interviews will take place from June 6-12.

Students are working on their community service project Periods 3 & 5 are making onesies, kimonos, and hats for preemies and period 8 is making pet beds for the Schoharie County Animal Shelter. There will be no homework this week.

We will be working on Career Plan Folders, checking accounts and budgeting this week. There will be no homework this week.
