CHOICE A In the novel THE CATCHER IN THE RYE by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caufield describes a good book as one that "when you are done reading it you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you feel like it." Imagine that the author of your book is a friend of yours and write the dialogue of a phone conversation you might have with him or her. Your conversation should revolve around your reaction to and questions about the book. ( length: 2 pages, double spaced)
CHOICE B Often a character at the end of a novel is not the same person he or she was at the beginning. Explain how this statement is true of one of the main characters in your independent reading selection. Provide and discuss 2 examples from the book that illustrate this character development.
(length: 4 well developed paragraphs, including an introduction, 2 body paragraphs and a conclusion)
CHOICE C ( for 5 bonus points!!) Write a critical lens essay in which you discuss your interpretation of the following quote, whether or not you agree and how your book supports your opinion. You will need to discuss 2 examples from your book that support your opinion. (length: 4 paragraphs- introduction, 2 body paragraphs, conclusion)

CHOICE D Write a scene for you book that you wished had happened but did not. After you have written the scene, write a paragraph explaining how this scene would have changed the outcome of the book. ( length: 2 pages double spaced)
