 Meet the Coach

 JOE WHIPPLE: Head Varsity Coach - Bio: Coach Whipple is a high school Special Education Teacher in his second year at Schalmont High School.  In his first year as Schalmont's Head Varsity Football Coach, Coach Whipple guided the Sabres to their first ever Class B Super Bowl Championship ('09) and his team reached the State Semi-Final game.  Coach Whipple was raised in Rotterdam with his three brothers. He is a graduate of Mohonasen High School ('92). Coach Whipple and his wife currently reside in Rotterdam and are raising their 2 children in the Schalmont district. Coach Whipple came to Schalmont with plenty of football experience having success most recently at Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons High School in Schenectady. Coach Whipple guided the Knights to their first winning record in many years( 6-3) in 2008. Coach Whipple has also coached Rotterdam Pop Warner ('95-'96), Guilderland Freshman Coach ( '97-'98), Mohonasen JV Coach ('99-'01), Mohonasen Varsity Offensive Coordinator ('02-'06), and Bishop Gibbons Head Varsity Coach ('07-'08).

Where Are They Now?

Kyle McKelvey- Kyle played 2 years for the Schalmont Sabres Varsity team during his school career.  Kyle was a quarterback/safety who helped the Sabres to a West Division title in 2008 during his senior year. In his career at Schalmont, Kyle (QB) had 75 completions for 944 yards and 12 passing TD's. At the safety position, Kyle had 7 interceptions. Kyle was named Times Union All Area First Team All Star and Schenectady Gazette All Area Second Team. Kyle was also selected as a Section 2 First Team West Division All Star (S). Kyle's real passion, however, was baseball. Over his 4 year Varsity Baseball career, Kyle set 8 school records and had his jersey retired. Kyle is now playing shortstop for the Western New England Golden Bears and majoring in Biomedical Engineering.

The Schalmont Sabres were the Section 2 Class B West Division Champions in 2008 and 2009.  Many players received awards and recognition for their successful season.
