About English 7-Up
This year's theme is personal discoveries:
"Discovering the Reader and Writer Within Me."
Students in Grade 7 will read and write in a wide variety of genres including but not limited to descriptive writing, research writing, memoir and creative writing. Our literature will include short stories, Trouble With Lemons by Daniel Hayes, Woodsong, by Gary Paulsen, Out of the Dust, by Karen Hesse, and Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen. It will also include Folktales, Myths and Legends and a study of poetry. Reading comprehension practice, vocabulary development, cursive writing practice, grammar, usage, and mechanics, and library skills will also be emphasized.
All of the units students complete in Grade 7 address the New York State Standards in English Language Arts. We will review for the 7th grade ELA assessment in January 2007 and prepare for the 8th grade ELA examination.
