Welcome to 6th Grade Math
The Math curriculum is aligned to New York State and national standards. The focus at the 6th grade level is to develop the five strands while developing problem solving and reasoning abilities, in addition to computation abilities. Topics covered: patterns, order of operations, properties of numbers, number theories, decimals, fractions, integers, rates, ratio and proportion, equation solving, geometry and probability, and statistics. In preparation for the new state exams, students will write on a regular basis during math. Students will write in a math journal showing work, explaining their mathematical thinking and clarifying their responses. Students will be encouraged to focus their thinking/writing on specific mathematical concepts.
These strands are:
* Number Sense and Operations
* Algebra
* Geometry
* Measurement
* Statistics and Probability
